The Livingston County Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $10,000 to PATCH (Parents and Their Children) to assist them in their operating expenses for 2015. PATCH has been in operation at Chillicothe Correctional Center for 30 years and receives no funds from the Department of Corrections. PATCH offers a program that combines intensive parent education with supervised offender mother/child visits in special family visiting rooms and an ongoing offender support program to help offender mothers become more effective parents. PATCH provides supervision for the child visits and transportation for the children to come to Chillicothe. Trips within 100 miles are made in a van owned by PATCH and, for longer distances, personal cars or vans provided by participating churches are used. PATCH also provides a parenting support group which holds weekly meetings at the prison.

The Livingston County Community Foundation was organized in 1998 as a recommendation of the Long Range Planning Committee of the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce to set up a permanent endowment which will grant funds to other county non-profit (501c3) organization to fulfill their objectives. The major areas of interest are economic development, community/rural development, education, community health and welfare, youth and arts and humanities. Since its organization, the foundation has made more than 70 grants totaling over $400,000 to Livingston County non-profit groups.
